Realistic and abstract works by sculptor Josef Rickenbacher
|
| The work of Josef Rickenbacher, awarded the Culture Prize of the Canton of Schwyz in 1983, encompasses both realistic figurativeness and radically simplified form, ranging from small to large sculptures, usually cast in bronze or more rarely sculpted in stone. His figures – whether religious or secular – have something inherently “archaic” about them, as well as a “down-to-earth” quality, growing as they do from the block and floor into the air. John Matheson characterised the large sculptures with this note: “Purpose and free sculptural expression are united without contradiction. This is possible not least because Josef Rickenbacher himself sees no contradiction there. It is a testament to his aplomb that he regards art as a free and committed “craft”, in which meaningful shapes, whether figurative or abstract, are a means and an end.”
Josef Rickenbacher from Steinen died on July 23, 2004 after a long and severe illness.

“Seduction” art exhibition by Marjo Wüscher-Brugman
|
| My years of experience as a practising and clinical nutritionist and my additional training as a therapist meant that I was confronted with a wide range of problems. My training helped me to recognise myself, as well as the systems in which we live. If you work on the solution rather than the problem itself, this stimulates creative forces. Five years ago, this new view of things also stimulated my love of painting. Since autumn 2008 I have worked every day in my studio at number 6, Milchgasse in Aarau. You can also see a continuous exhibition of my works here. In life, as in painting, it is nicer to find things than search for them. The things that I discover in the process intuitively acquire colour and form, though I observe no rules. For me, intuitive painting becomes a gateway to another carefree world. As I am self-taught and unfamiiar with the rules, it is quite easy for me to work intuitively and take great pleasure in the painting process. I would like to spread this pleasure as widely as possible, which is why I try to make my studio a “meeting place for art”, for anyone who would like to share it with me. My first aim was (and still is) to create my own postcards, as I send letters every day. This is a very good way to spread my love of painting.
These days I have found other ways (and will keep doing so). After all, as my fellow countryman Vincent van Gogh once said: “What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?”

Parc & Le Richemond
|
| The Hotel Le Richemond in Geneva is also a member of the SwissDeluxe Hotels and was also opened in 1875. That is why we have decided to organise a culinary exchange between its restaurant, Le Jardin and our gourmet Restaurant Annex.
The menu at Le Jardin results from a cooperation between Fulvo Pierangelini, who was selected as Italy’s best chef and awarded two Michelin stars and also acts as a consultant for the Rocco Forte Collection, and the new chef of Le Richemond, Roberto Benvegnù.
Fulvio Pierangelini, originally from Rome, is known throughout the world. He is famous for using local products and walking the tightrope between innovation and respect for the origin of his ingredients.
Roberto Benvegnù, who has taken over as the new chef at Le Richemond, originally comes from Padua in western Italy. 28 years old, the Italian began his career at the “old” Richemond and worked as a sous-chef at the world-famous Dorchester Hotel in London. He rejoined the kitchen team at Le Richemond for the reopening in September 2007.
From September 24 – 26, 2010, Fulvio Pierangelini will work his magic in the Restaurant Annex and treat you to his gourmet Italian cuisine. On Friday and Saturday evening, he will create a top-class five-course menu for you. For the Sunday brunch, he will bring a hint of Italian flair to the buffet.

Sat, 30. October 2010 – Thu, 20. January 2011, Gallery
Opening – Nostalgic Dreamlands
|
| The Olten-based painter Thomas Droll learned his craft from a very early age in his father’s studio. Since these early beginnings, he has continued to develop his self-taught painting skills. He has been working as a professional artist since 2001 and has made a name with a range of exhibitions at home and abroad.
This painter uses images from reality. However, his view of the things and people of the world often has a dream-like quality. He uses light and colour to intentionally make situations unclear or to transfer them to an almost film-like atmosphere, to open up a new viewpoint to the observer. Things that seemed familiar are suddenly seen differently, understood differently and interpreted individually.
In an ideal world, our spectrum of realities is expanded and enriched, perhaps providing a gateway into a dream world.

Opening from 6 p.m. Entry free. Exhibition in the gallery until 20 January 2011.

USA Tour

| Those who travel to the United States experience the diversity of an unconventional cuisine which has been influenced by immigrants and native peoples in equal measure. From the coasts of Maine to New Orleans there is a wide range of sophisticated speciality foods: Creole stews, fish ragouts, every different variation of steak, Tex-Mex specialties, delicacies from China Town and Little Italy, spareribs and many other specialities come together to make the best recipes in America. Our discovery of the cuisine of the USA this month takes us to the state of Arizona. The state whose entire southern edge borders Mexico and which treats visitors to hot and spicy beef specialities. However, this state is primarily known for the Grand Canyon, the picturesque area around Sedona, “Lake Powell” or the enormous Hoover Dam on the Nevada border. Simply a must!

4th China Festival
|
| The Park Hotel Weggis is once again holding an in-depth festival dedicated to a country which is both striking for its incredible growth and fascinating for its millennia of culture. We will be playing host to Western China from 22 January to 13 February with all its different facets – culture, cuisine and economy. Follow our journey to experience the “Middle Kingdom”.
Alongside Peking, Shanghai and Canton, Szechuan is the last of the four major Chinese cuisines. Recipes for Szechuan dishes often date back to ancient times and colour, aroma, flavour and form are valued very highly in this uniquely flavoured cuisine. The flavours of Szechuan spices are varied, sharp and intense. Essential ingredients for dishes from this region include chillies, Szechuan pepper and black pepper.
The team from the DARONGHE restaurant will be our guests at the Restaurant Sparks in the Park Hotel Weggis from 22 January to 13 February; see them every day with live music and the extraordinary Szechuan tea ceremony. Chengdu’s DARONGHE Restaurants are a symbol of Szechuan cuisine in China and since the first DARONGHE Restaurant opened in 1999, they have been tantalising the taste buds of countless customers who are prepared to queue every day to bag a table. Today Chengdu’s DARONGHE has four Restaurants in Chengdu and several more across the country.
